Description:
Antonio Villarruel, AIA was chosen to complete planning and design services for a new retail/service plaza in the city of Thousand Oaks. The first building was a remodel and addition of an old commercial facility. The building was completely redesigned, along with an 18,000 square feet addition. The building is a multi-tenant unit and incorporates a Mediterranean/Spanish design style. The second building occupies the site of an old gas station. Various national and regional restaurants occupy the facility. An outdoor plaza with a fountain and surrounding palm trees complement the building. Extensive site work to improve access to the site was necessary and proved to be pivotal to the success of the plaza. The success of the design was shown by both buildings being leased out before construction was completed.
